Sam heard many different versions of the story of her conception and birth, over the years. What they all agreed on was that her father’s name was Stephen Zachar and that he was a high-ranking member of the Ordo Dracul, a secretive order of vampire scientists, obsessed with finding ways to overcome the vampire condition. The stories further agreed that he was a Daeva, a clan of vampires known for being strong, charming, and quick. Finally, in every version of the story, she was born on the eighth of January, 1994.
The similarities end there. In some versions of the story, Stephen wished to punish a disobedient servant, and so, implanted her with his seed just to see what would happen. In other versions of the story, he fell in love with a mortal woman named Christina Delgadi and simply yearned to have a home and family with her. Some versions even claim that Sam was immaculately conceived by Stephen himself. She really never believed those versions. But regardless of the actual circumstances of her nativity, what Sam first learned was that sometime after she was born, that one of Zachar’s rivals in the Ordo, Karen Kostow, kidnapped her one night, secreting her away from her home in Lincoln, Nebraska, to put her into the foster system of Chicago, Illinois.
She didn’t learn this for many years, though.

Great Expectations
Aug. 22nd, 2025 01:23 pm'scuse me, Mr. Dickens, I've got something on my mind
I've tried but I can't seem to let it go
Lately I've been thinking about that little orphan boy
Who's parents died and left him all alone
Then an outlaw came one fateful day
While standing at his parent's grave
And offered him another way to climb
And I wonder
Is that orphan's story mine?
All these great expectations
Meet these grave revelations
Am I the one in control?
Is it all predetermined?
Am I playing a role
Part of a story foretold?
Darrel was on his way up in the world
Everyone knew he'd go far
But life came along, it had different plans
How quickly a dream falls apart
Johnny has no kind of chance in this world
Not from where he's had to start
Who knows how far in this life he could go
If he played a different part
I look around at all of my friends
And still I feel alone
I would follow them to battle
But their story's not my own
They say there's strengths in numbers
But they never think it out
About a path that leads you out
Beyond these city walls
I've got great expectations
Great expectations
Great expectations
Great expectations
Torn between what is and what could be
It's hard to write the story
When the story's writing me
When this great expectation
Meets this grave revelation
Maybe this cover's not yours
When your book's full of creases
And you see that the grease is
Telling a story
But you've read that one before
So you fight just to show them
That you're not all the same
That under the covers
There's more
I've tried but I can't seem to let it go
Lately I've been thinking about that little orphan boy
Who's parents died and left him all alone
Then an outlaw came one fateful day
While standing at his parent's grave

This is the end
Hold your breath and count to ten
Feel the Earth move and then
Hear my heart burst again
For this is the end
I've drowned and dreamt this moment
So overdue, I owe them
Swept away, I'm stolen
Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
Let the sky fall
When it crumbles
We will stand tall
Face it all together
At Skyfall
At Skyfall
Skyfall is where we start
A thousand miles and poles apart
Where worlds collide and days are dark
You may have my number, you can take my name
But you'll never have my heart
Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)
When it crumbles (when it crumbles)
We will stand tall (we will stand tall)
Face it all together
Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)
When it crumbles (when it crumbles)
We will stand tall (we will stand tall)
Face it all together
At Skyfall
Where you go, I go
What you see, I see
I know I'd never be me
Without the security
Of your loving arms
Keeping me from harm
Put your hand in my hand
And we'll stand
Let the sky fall (let the sky fall)
When it crumbles (when it crumbles)
We will stand tall (we will stand tall)

I Miss the Mountains
May. 8th, 2023 10:50 pmThere was a time when I flew higher
Was a time the wild girl running free would be me
Now I see her, feel the fire
Now I know she needs me there to share
I'm nowhere
All these blank and tranquil years
Seems they've dried up all my tears
And while she runs free and fast
Seems my wild days are past
But I miss the mountains
I miss the dizzy heights
All the manic magic days
And the dark depressing nights
I miss the mountains
I miss the highs and lows
All the climbing, all the falling
All the while the wild wind blows
Stinging you with snow
And soaking you with rain
I miss the mountains
I miss the pain
Mountains make you crazy
Here it's safe and sound
My mind is somewhere hazy
My feet are on the ground
Everything is balanced here
And on an even keel
Everything is perfect
Nothing's real
Nothing's real
And I miss the mountains
I...I miss the lonely climb
Wandering through the wilderness
And spending all my time
Where the air is clear
And cuts you like a knife
I miss the mountains
I...I miss the mountains
I miss my life
I miss my life
Was a time the wild girl running free would be me
Now I see her, feel the fire

Wanted Dead or Alive
Sep. 30th, 2022 10:00 amIt's all the same, only the names will change
Every day, it seems we're wastin' away
Another place where the faces are so cold
I'd drive all night just to get back home
I'm a cowboy
On a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive
Wanted dead or alive
Sometimes I sleep, sometimes it's not for days
The people I meet always go their separate ways
Sometimes you tell the day by the bottle that you drink
And times when you're alone, well, all you do is think
I'm a cowboy
On a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted (wanted), dead or alive
Wanted (wanted), dead or alive
Oh, and I ride
Yeah
Oh, I'm a cowboy
On a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted (wanted), dead or alive
And I walk these streets, a loaded six-string on my back
I play for keeps 'cause I might not make it back
I've been everywhere, still I'm standing tall
I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
'Cause I'm a cowboy
On a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted (wanted), dead or alive
'Cause I'm a cowboy
I got the night on my side
And I'm wanted (wanted), dead or alive
And I ride (and I ride), dead or alive
I still drive (I still drive), dead or alive
Dead or alive
Dead or alive
Dead or alive

Apr. 29th, 2022 03:26 pmSam is a Vampire: The Requiem (V:TR) vampire, known as a "Kindred," mostly because it sounds pretentious and the Kindred really like euphemisms. At any rate, she has some powers. Some of them might do things to you. Take a look at her abilities below and post to let me know what is and isn't okay to do to your character. And remember, saying "Talk to me first" is a perfectly reasonable thing! I'm a super nice and squishy person. You can ping me on plurk (
wizera) or PM this journal any time.
Vampiric Abilities That Probably Won't Impact You
Haven of Soil: Sam can sink down into a patch of soil and remain hidden there until she chooses to rise again or the soil around her is disturbed.
Claws of the Wild: Through the use of the blood in her system, Sam can grow long, sharp claws which she can use to cut things or aid her in climbing. They can also hurt people, but Sam really doesn't do that.
Coil of Banes: The Coil of Banes reduces the severity of several vampiric weaknesses in the V:TR world. As a student of the Coil, Sam is better able to resist a frenzy of fear, caused by fire. She can stay awake during the daytime. And she can withstand a certain amount of indirect sunlight.
Vampiric Abilities That Might Impact You, If You're A Vampire
Predator's Taint: Vampires in the world of V:TR exude what is known as a "predator's taint." In other words, Sam can tell if someone is a vampire or not just by being in the same room as them. This taint also tells her how powerful a vampire is, in relation to her.
Aspect of the Predator: Sam exudes a predator's taint to other vampires, as mentioned above. Because she has studied the discipline of Protean, her taint reads, "I am a predator who is your equal or superior."
Vampiric Abilities That Might Impact You No Matter What You Are
Command: Sam can issue a one-word command that must be obeyed, provided she can make eye contact with her victim and provided that the victim can follow this command with reasonable self-preservation. Should the command be something akin to "sleep" then the victim will immediately wake upon any kind of attack.
Mesmerize: Sam can implant a suggestion or false thought. She can give the victim a specific order to follow which lasts until the task is completed or until the end of the month.
Feeding: Well, naturally, a vampire needs to drink blood. Sam is not the sort of person who drains a human dry. In general, she takes about three pints per feeding. And here's the bonus: Being bitten by a V:TR vampire totally feels like a sexual experience. That's right. You'll enjoy being bitten. If anyone's willing to donate blood, she's on board with it. Tell me how you feel about that!
Blood: Sam's blood can also be consumed by others. It has a unique impact on vampires, binding them to her. In other words, they feel a pull of loyalty to her. They may like or dislike her, but they find it incredibly difficult to act against her will. Mortals who drink her blood become what is known in the V:TR world as "ghouls." A ghoul is a human being who has been supernaturally enhanced by vampire blood. A pint of blood lasts for a single month. During that time, a ghoul stops aging completely, automatically becomes stronger and more durable than normal, and has the potential to learn low levels of Sam's disciplines. Ghouls can also heal much quicker than your average human being, so Sam could potentially feed her blood to someone to stop them from dying. (Note: Ghouling is an extremely complicated process. I am certainly open to plots revolving around ghouling, but there is a lot more to it than what's written above. I'm including this mostly to advertise that it's a possibility. Feel free to contact me to discuss ghouling more in depth.)
Phew! Okay, that's a lot of information to take in, and that's not including her mundane abilities, like her mad skillz with firearms or her ability to paint a reasonably good likeness of you! As a baseline, if you can fill out the following form, we can figure out the rest as we go:

I know that I have issues,
I face them, I swear.
Think I overcome them
Then turn - they're still there.
Wish that I was different
I'd like to let go.
But when I try to change
There's my past, saying no.
Maybe it's all 'cause of dad,
His new kids, his new wife
Or why not just blame mom
Who's been nuts my whole life...
When you've felt so alone since
The moment of birth
And you're struggled to find
Your own true sense of worth
When it seems there is no one
Across this whole earth
To depend upon, you carry on
Just like you always do
'Cause it's safer to rely on you.
Oh, it's safer to rely on you.
Seen a million movies
All selling true love.
Fantasies I'm not sure
That I'm worthy of.
Caution to the wind
My heart's been on display.
Still the end result is
It's not gone my way.
So when I date some new guy
Who's a deadbeat or jerk
At least I'm not so crushed
When it all doesn't work...
When you once, unafraid,
Wore your heart on your sleeve
And the ones that you loved
Chose to just turn and leave
Every day it gets harder to
Somehow believe
You will survive, so you strive
Just to keep up your guard
'Cause it's safer to hold every card.
Oh, it's safer to hold every card.
I feel out of control
I feel safe on the ground.
I go building up walls
Yet I wish to be found.
A true contradiction to which I am bound
As I keep on spinning around and around...
And I look at the people
Who've worked it all out
And I wonder why I'm still
A bundle of doubt and sometimes
I wanna just stand up and shout...
"Just commit and deal with it
Before your life flies by...
Don't let your life fly by..."
But is it safer?
Maybe it's safer
If I don't try
I face them, I swear.
Think I overcome them
Then turn - they're still there.

Hotel California
Apr. 14th, 2021 05:50 pmOn a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
"This could be Heaven or this could be Hell"
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year (Any time of year)
You can find it here
Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget
So I called up the Captain,
"Please bring me my wine"
He said, "We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine"
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (Such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
They livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise)
Bring your alibis
Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said "We are all just prisoners here, of our own device"
And in the master's chambers,
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax," said the night man,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!"

"We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!"
Personality Analysis

The way I am

It would be easy to dismiss Samantha as “nothing serious.” She’s mouthy, brash, and never does things halfway. Her hair is blue. She paints graffiti. Pop culture and profanity pepper her speech. Her youth is one of her most noticeable features and, because of it, she’s often disregarded by Kindred. At the same time, enormous bits and pieces of her personality can be explained, in part, because of her youth.
( Although she's a vampire... )
Everything I Thought I Knew
Dec. 22nd, 2020 04:34 pmI thought I was an outcast
I thought I stood alone
A rogue, a thief, a joker
No place to call my own
I thought no one could love me
And how could I have known I was wrong
Oh so wrong
And then I thought I found it
A dream that I could share
I thought I was so lucky
It almost wasn't fair
I thought I knew my purpose
I thought that I knew where I belong
But I was wrong
Everything I ever thought I knew
Where I've been, where I'm going
Everything I counted on turned out to be untrue
Could've guessed, should've known
Now I do
Everything I've yearned for
Everything I planned
All my sweetest memories were castles made of sand
Now that it's all crumbling, help me understand
If none of it was really me, then who am I suppose to be?
And everything I ever thought I knew
Every hope, every feeling
Love and trust and happiness
They're done, they're gone, they're through
And what's left, me alone
Once again, should've known
Now I do
I guess my life meant nothing
I guess it was a sham
I guess I'm someone else now
I wonder who I am
I thought I stood alone
A rogue, a thief, a joker
No place to call my own
I thought no one could love me
And how could I have known I was wrong
Oh so wrong

Are you insane like me?
Been in pain like me?
Bought a hundred dollar bottle of champagne like me?
Just to pour that motherfucker down the drain like me?
Would you use your water bill to dry the stain like me?
Are you high enough without the Mary Jane like me?
Do you tear yourself apart to entertain like me?
Do the people whisper 'bout you on the train like me?
Saying that you shouldn't waste your pretty face like me?
And all the people say
You can't wake up, this is not a dream
You're part of a machine, you are not a human being
With your face all made up, living on a screen
Low on self-esteem, so you run on gasoline
I think there's a flaw in my code
(Oh, ooh-oh, ooh-oh, oh)
These voices won't leave me alone
Well, my heart is gold and my hands are cold
Are you deranged like me?
Are you strange like me?
Lighting matches just to swallow up the flame like me?
Do you call yourself a fucking hurricane like me?
Pointing fingers 'cause you'll never take the blame like me?
And all the people say
You can't wake up, this is not a dream
You're part of a machine, you are not a human being
With your face all made up, living on a screen
Low on self-esteem, so you run on gasoline

I'd Rather Be Me
May. 1st, 2019 02:33 pmSo your best friend screwed you over
Acted nice when she's not nice
Well, I have some advice
‘Cause it's happened to me. Twice
Here's my secret strategy
It always works because
The world doesn't end
It just feels like it does
So raise your right finger
And solemnly swear
"Whatever they say about me
I don't care!"
I won't twist in knots to join your game
I will say, "you make me mad."
And if you treat me bad
I'll say "you're bad"
And if I eat alone from this moment on
That's just what I'll do
‘Cause I'd rather be me, I'd rather be me
I'd rather be me than be with you
We're supposed to all be ladies
And be nurturing and care
Is that really fair?
Boys get to fight, we have to share
Here's the way that turns out
We always understand
How to slap someone down
With our underhand
So here's my right finger
To how girls should behave
'Cause sometimes what's meant to break you
Makes you brave
So I will not act all innocent
I won't fake apologize
Let's just fight and then make up
Not tell these lies
Let's call our damage even
Clean the slate till it's like new
It's a new life for me, where I'd rather be me
I'd rather be me, than be with you
I'll say, "NO!"
NO!
I'll say, "knock it off,
with your notes and your rules and your games."
And those sycophants who follow you
I'll remember all their names
And when they drag you down
Like they inevitably do
I will not laugh along with them and
Approve their palace coup, ‘cause that's not me
I don't need their good opinions
I have plenty of opinions
Everybody has opinions but it doesn't make them true
What's true is being me
And I'd rather be me
I'd rather be me than be with you.
So raise them high ‘cause playing nice and shy is insulting my IQ
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah
I'd Rather Be Me
I'd Rather Be Me
I'd Rather Be Me than be with you!
I'd Rather Be Me
I'd Rather Be Me
I'd Rather Be Me than be with you!

I awake to silver walls
and single digit centigrade
a sheet over my body
and a tag upon my toe
in the air the smell of ozone
in my mind is just a void
I'll go where answers can be found
kick the door and smash it down
As I walk these halls how my mind races
Widened eyes inside of staring faces
But none of them can fill these empty spaces
Who am I?
Lightning flashes in from shattered windows
as I'm wandering
bare feet on a concrete floor
with rain beneath my toes
in these crooked mirrors
there's a face that I don't recognize
on my knees oh how I cry
arms spread wide, eyes to the sky
Is this all as strange as it is seeming?
Was I dead or was I only dreaming?
Up into the thunder I am screaming
Who am I?
I remember red fields and a city domed in glass
I was charged with a vital task
Red fields and a home that's far away
I remember
I remember Gallifrey
La la la...
Now my story's no longer suspended
Now my greatest foe must be prevented
Here at last the answer is presented
Who am I
Who am I
